Michelangelo "Statue of David"
Michelangelo "Statue of David"
(1501-1504)
David, a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo, was created between 1501 and 1504. Standing 5.17 meters tall, it was the first colossal marble statue of the early modern period. Originally intended for the roofline of Florence Cathedral, David was instead unveiled on September 8, 1504, in the public square before the Palazzo della Signoria. In 1873, the statue was relocated to the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, with a replica replacing it at the original site in 1910.
